Why I Chose LOCAL’d

Why I Chose LOCAL’d
I moved to Washington DC from Orange County, California nearly four years ago.
As I geared up for the cross country move, I knew it would be tough to leave the west coast; my favorite beaches, pastimes and perfect weather were all at the top of my 'Things I’ll Miss Most' list.
But the most difficult transition upon arriving in Washington, DC was dealing with the fact that I no longer knew how to easily and safely find marijuana.
Although I knew I could access medical marijuana fairly easily in DC, I had a few roadblocks that prevented me from wanting to go that route:
1.I wanted to keep my official mailing residence a California address and wasn’t willing to get a DC driver’s license (a requirement to obtaining a medical license in DC) and
2.I don’t have a car in the city, so getting to and from one of the few clinics in the area would have been unrealistic for me on a regular basis.
Whenever a Lyft driver or new acquaintance asks why I moved to DC from Southern California, I always respond with different reasons; work, school, family…
The truth is I left my home on the west coast because I wanted a fresh start in a new city after surviving a terrible, almost fatal car accident in 2014.
Even though I’m lucky to have recovered so well from all of my many injuries, I am left with daily chronic pain and lingering side effects from the event.
I don’t really enjoy drinking or using pain pills, and dislike other recreational drugs; so when it came to finding some relief and relaxation time, cannabis became my go-to.
But after awhile of living in the District and not knowing where to easily find cannabis on my own, I was sick of having to hang out with acquaintances I didn’t like that much just to get ahold of some flower to blaze.
Finally, I was lucky and met some friends I actually liked, and they were cool enough to tell me about a delivery service that they used; You buy their products, and they deliver it with a gift of marijuana.
What? That’s a thing here?!
I ordered from that company immediately.
But it was somewhat of a let-down. For $65 dollars, they sold me a pack of stale, average-quality cookies, and gave a gift of less than an eighth of weed that wasn’t properly dried.
Meh.
Of course this was better than not having any on-demand weed delivery, but the product, service and price could definitely be better.
After ordering from that company a few times, I started to get really frustrated. I know this is a very first world problem to have, but I’m going to rant about it anyways: My cookies were always stale, and my free gift was never that great!
They also never informed me of how long it would take to deliver the product which got really annoying, real fast.
One day, I waited for hours not knowing the estimated time of arrival. I went outside to walk my dog while I waited impatiently, and saw a car pull into the driveway that looked like it might belong to one of the company’s drivers.
I walked up to the car and asked if he was with such and such company, and if he was there for my delivery. He poked his head out the window and with a smile he said “No, but I’m with LOCAL'd and we deliver the same thing! Try us sometime.”
In that moment, I realized how 420-friendly the people of Washington DC actually are.
Think about it, if there just happened to be two companies delivering products with a free gift of cannabis to the same building at the same time, that shows there is clearly a fairly high demand for the business model here.
Honestly, when is the last time you saw multiple pizza delivery cars outside the same apartment building at 3:00pm on a weekday?
When the last of what I ordered from the first company finally ran out, I decided I would investigate what LOCAL'd had to offer.
I found them online at www.getlocald.com and opted-in to their newsletter by creating a login and password, so that I could receive promotional discount codes.
I was instantly more satisfied by this experience than the other.
It’s hard not to love a discount!
Within a few minutes of placing my order, I received a confirmation email and text message confirming my order had been received. Twenty minutes later, I got a text message letting me know that my order had been collected and was en route, and the message included a little GPS map that allowed me to track the delivery driver’s route.
It gets better:
The business model at LOCAL’d rivals, competitors, because the products they sell are sourced from local, Washington DC vendors in efforts to help promote them throughout the community.
LOCAL'd is operating with a socially conscious mission statement in mind. The free gift of cannabis that’s included with your purchase also happens to be sourced from local growers.
By collaborating with other vendors and influencers in the area, LOCAL’d is able to consciously cross-promote each brand while creating positive growth throughout the Nation’s Capital.
Since finding LOCAL’d, I’ve discovered that there are several similar delivery services in the area, but I have remained a loyal customer of LOCAL’d for over a year now because they’ve never given me a reason to stray away.
I really enjoy the product and gift they deliver, and appreciate their reliability and the regular coupon codes they email to me.
They clearly value their customers, and make the ordering and delivery process smooth and effortless.
