The History of Delta 8 THC

The History of Delta 8 THC

Sep 29th 2021

There has been a constant debate over the years as laws banning marijuana-based products have almost become obsolete. This classic debate is Delta 8 vs Delta 9 THC and which one is the best of the two. Many people choose delta 8 because of the many positive side effects and health benefits that it offers over delta 9 THC.

Delta 8 has seen a lot of popularity over the past few years. Many people now incorporate delta 8 THC into daily life. Although it might seem like delta 8 was born overnight, it wasn't. In fact, delta 8 has undergone decades worth of research before it hit the market in the form of Delta 8 cartridges.

What is delta 8 THC? And where did it come a long time ago?

Where did Delta-8 THC originate?

You will be familiar with THC if you know anything about marijuana. THC naturally occurs in marijuana plants, but it is not just one component. THC can actually be broken down into four different structures that all start with THCA.

In trace amounts, Delta 8 has been found in marijuana plants. This doesn't mean we have to limit what is found in marijuana plants. The process of oxidation can produce more delta-8 THC. This happens when delta-9 THC is left exposed to oxygen for a prolonged period. Although you might not be familiar with the science behind marijuana smoking, you may notice a weaker high if the marijuana is left exposed for too long. This happens because delta 9 THC, which is responsible for the strong high, is converted to delta 8. Delta 8 creates a weaker 'high'.

You may now have an understanding of delta 9 THC and want to know how it was discovered.

THC research

Scientists have known for a long time that THC can be made from four strains. These are THCA and THCV, as well as delta 9 or 8. Scientists were able distinguish between these strains based on their structure and how they interact with receptors. Due to the strict laws surrounding drug use, little is known about the effects of each drug on the body.

That was until 1974 when scientists began testing the effects of CBD and delta 8 on mice. Initial research sought to prove that THC could harm the immune system. However, they were wrong. They discovered that delta 8 THC could reduce and kill cancer cells. This was something they had never expected. They decided to continue their research on delta 8 after this discovery.

The research on how delta 8 works was carried out using rats as the model. This research was done to determine how potent delta 8 was. It was also used to shrink tumors. Over a period of ten consecutive days, the research was continued with different amounts of each THC structure. It was found that delta 8 THC (and delta 9 THC) had the greatest effects on tumors.

This discovery has helped to dispel some of the stigma associated with delta-8 THC. Scientists also wanted to continue their research to find out if delta 8 THC could be beneficial to humans in other ways.

1995 nausea experiment

A doctor named Dr. Raphael Mechoulam tried to use delta 8 THC to treat nausea in 1995. Children who were suffering from nausea after receiving extensive chemotherapy received the delta 8. The delta 8 was found to have a 100% success rate against nausea. This is a rare finding in medicine. This suggests that the delta 8 could be used to treat nausea-related illnesses.

Appetite

Additional research was done in 2004 to determine if delta-8 THC could be used to treat a variety of conditions, including lack of appetite. The mice were used in the study. It was found that delta-8 THC significantly increased their appetite than delta-9 THC. They had previously found that mice felt anxious after they tested delta-9 THC on them. They found that the anxiety was reduced when they added delta 8 THC to the mix. Scientists began producing products with delta 8 THC to reduce anxiety. If you pick up a guide to vaping with Delta 8, the first benefit that will be advertised to use is a decrease of anxiety and this was discovered due to these mice experiments.
